In Jelfa district, south of zayanderud, there exist 14 churches, the most well-known of which is Vanak Church which was constructed during Shah Abbas II time. This church includes paintings of Jesus Christ's life, ornaments, and stuccos. Vanak museum is also in this church.
After the great migration of Armenians in 1605 on the orders of Shah Abbas II , they are beginning to make their living, churches built first place.
Armenians were people that religion was important to them. So this would be the place for prayer. The first church was Vank.
Vank Cathedral has been copied from St. Stepanous in Julfa, Azerbaijan.
The church has a large dome and lofty walls and arches are tall and beautiful.
In the corner of the big beautiful church a bell tower was built based on four stone pillars.
Interior of the Church is an examples of Armenian architecture but has the exterior style of Iranian architecture.
